Welcome back to the THIRD Sorare MLB off season strategy guide.

We have already dug into Relief Pitcher and Hitter strategy, so this edition will be dedicated to Starting Pitchers.

We get to roster just one SP in each Sorare lineup, which means picking a good one is highly important.

I already broke down some of the pitcher stats I like to look at when targeting HITTERS in the last guide, but it makes sense to go over some of them again here.

I will save that part for the end for the readers who may have missed the Hitter Guide.

Let’s dive into it!

When rostering starting pitchers in Sorare MLB, I like to look at 6 things:

  1. Is it a good strikeout matchup?

  2. Will weather affect their start?

  3. How long do they typically pitch?

  4. What ballpark are they pitching in?

  5. Should I stack them with their closer?

  6. What stats should I be looking at?

Let’s break these down…

K’s Are King

A pitcher’s matchup can make or break his outing.

Some pitchers are “matchup-proof”, meaning they will likely perform well against even the best lineups in baseball.

There aren’t too many guys like this, but Chris Sale was pretty close last season.

He led MLB in almost every pitching metric last year.

However, when an already-elite pitcher draws an elite matchup, especially an elite strikeout-matchup, the outcome can be HUGE.

What I like to look for is strikeouts.

Each strikeout a pitcher records earns them 2 Sorare points.

So a ten-strikeout performance awards 20 points BEFORE adding all the other points for IP and a win.

The stat we should be looking at here is K/9, or how many strikeouts that pitcher records over nine innings.

Here were the top-ten pitchers in K/9 last season.

Generally, if you have above a 10.00, you are a good strikeout pitcher.

Now I like to look at which teams strike out the most.
