⚾️ Pitching Primer
Zack Wheeler vs ATL (SP3)
Atlanta got a lot stronger with the return of Ronald Acuña Jr, but Wheeler has been only worse than Tarik Skubal this season.
He hasn’t allowed a run over his last three starts and has racked up 22 strikeouts against the Athletics, Pirates, and Guardians.
He has a high floor and a high ceiling. Don’t overthink this one.
Paul Skenes at ARI (SP4)
Arizona is also a tough matchup, but Skenes, for some reason, has his best starts against good offenses.
He had nine punch-outs against Philly and the Dodgers over his last ten starts.
He’s 13th in xFIP this season (3.09).
Chris Sale at PHI (SP5)
Sale hasn’t allowed more than two runs over his last seven starts, and he’s had at least 8 strikeouts in five of those starts.
The Phillies are yet another tough matchup, but Sale will have the splits in his favor against Harper and Schwarber, and I think he puts up another big game here.
He’s third in K/9 on the season (11.38).
Other Starters Include:
Spencer Strider at PHI (SP6)
Logan Webb at DET (SP7)
Garrett Crochet at MIL (SP8)
Yoshinobu Yamamoto at CLE (SP9)
George Kirby vs WSH (SP12)
Jacob deGrom vs TOR (SP13)
Joe Ryan at TBR (SP17)
Pablo Lopez at TBR (SP18)
Hunter Brown vs ATH (SP19)
Hunter Greene at KCR (SP22)
Corbin Burnes vs PIT (SP23)
💰 Stacks
This is a unique midweek where only two teams (Rays and Jays) are playing four games.
And neither spot stands out a whole lot.
There are good plays from those teams this week, but I can see the three-gamers easily outscoring them.
Cubs
Chicago is third in ISO (.194), third in wOBA (.347), and third in wRC+ (123).
They rank only behind the Dodgers and Yankees in these categories.
And now they get the best possible matchup against the Dodgers at home.
I don’t think we will get any “wind games” at Wrigley this weekend, but the Cubs are still an elite stack regardless.
Mets
The Mets are top ten in most offensive metrics this year, and they draw an elite matchup against the White Sox.
Sean Burke has a walk problem, so I expect many Mets to reach base on Sunday.
You can’t go wrong with a Pete Alonso, Juan Soto, Fransisco Lindor stack here.
Rays
I hate the matchups against Joe Ryan and Pablo Lopez, but having an extra game here does give the Rays an advantage.
Tampa ranks 16th in wRC+ (98) this season, and it’s not unlikely that they end up with a big Game Week here.
Other Stacks Include:
Blue Jays, Reds, Yankees, Dodgers
