⚾️ Pitching Primer
Tarik Skubal at SEA
Skubal had a brutal matchup in his first start and surrendered homers to Teoscar Hernandez and Max Muncy.
He only lasted five innings and struck out just two batters.
He should bounce back in his next matchup against Seattle on the road in one of MLB’s best pitcher parks.
I respect the Mariners as an offense, but they struck out at the highest rate in baseball last year and can thus provide big outings for opposing pitchers.
Last year’s Cy Young award winner and his 8th-ranked K/9 (10.69) should deliver one of those outings.
Logan Gilbert/Luis Castillo vs DET
On the other side of that series, the Mariners are in a great spot against Detroit, which is off to a slow start to the 2025 season.
It’s incredibly early, but the Tigers have the second-most strikeouts (35) and are ranked 26th in runs scored (5).
Their lineup is full of young hitters who will likely struggle against this proven Seattle staff.
And again, this is one of the, if not the best, ballparks in MLB for pitching.
Zack Wheeler vs COL
Wheeler was impressive in his first start of the year against Washington, racking up eight strikeouts and allowing just one run.
So far in the young season, Colorado has scored just seven runs and has recorded 24 strikeouts, which is the eighth-most in baseball.
This is a fantastic play on paper, but note that Wheeler is going on Thursday and there is a slight thunderstorm risk (See Weather Report below -Premium subs only).
Other Starters Include:
Garrett Crochet at BAL
Paul Skenes at TBR
Framber Valdez vs SFG
Tyler Glasnow vs ATL
Blake Snell vs ATL
Freddy Peralta vs KCR
Pablo Lopez at CWS
💰 Stacks
Twins
With four teams playing FOUR games this week, the Twins have the best matchup on the board.
Sean Burke was respectable in his Opening Day start for Chicago, allowing zero runs and three hits over six innings, but this was against the Angels.
The White Sox rotation is going to be one of the best to target with hitters this year, and Minnesota can definitely provide a punch at the top of their lineup.
Thursday’s matchup against Hunter Brown isn’t ideal, but having that extra game offers a huge advantage over 26 other teams.
Give me a Carlos Correa, Byron Buxton, Matt Wallner stack.
Reds
Play Elly De La Cruz this week.
He is already up to four stolen bases, which gives him incredible fantasy appeal every time he plays.
He led MLB last year with 67 stolen bases.
Great American Ballpark is one of the best in baseball for offense, and I love the idea of playing Elly with one or two other Reds this week.
The Rangers have respectable pitching, but the ballpark/matchup combination is going to make things tough.
Other Stacks Include:
Brewers, Astros, Phillies, Padres
