☔️ Rain Check
On Friday I mentioned extensive weather risk for GW27 however there were zero postponements.
It should be noted that it is very hard to predict accurate weather three or four days out.
I will do my best not to overstate risk going forward.
This week has six games with at least some weather on Thursday.
Minnesota looks the worst, but again, it’s hard to know exactly when and where the storm will be on a Monday morning.
Chicago - 41% chance of showers Thursday
Cleveland - 81% chance PM thunderstorms Wed./33% chance PM showers Thurs.
Minnesota - 42% chance scattered thunderstorms Tues./87% chance thunderstorms Thurs.
Kansas City - 51% chance scattered thunderstorms Wed./75% chance thunderstorms Thurs.
Washington D.C. - 75% chance PM thunderstorms Thurs.
Pittsburgh - 74% chance of thunderstorms Thurs.
⚾️ Pitching Primer
Corbin Burnes at SEA
Burnes has had one of the highest floors of any starting pitcher all season.
He is ranked 29th in K% (23.4%) and 19th in xFIP (3.36) and this week draws an enticing strikeout matchup against Seattle.
The Mariners strike out at the highest rate in the league (27.9%) and this game will be played in the pitcher-friendly T-Mobile Park.
Tarik Skubal and Jack Flaherty at MIN
This one-two punch from Detroit is actually one of the best in baseball.
Minnesota strikes out at the 20th-highest rate in the league (21.2%) and they have a decent offense overall, however, Skubal just proved he is matchup-proof when he had a huge game against the Phillies in his last outing.
Flaherty has the lowest xFIP in the league (2.30) and Skubal has the seventh-lowest (2.93).
Other Starters Include:
Chris Sale vs SFG
Framber Valdez at TOR
Bailey Ober vs DET
Zack Wheeler at CHC
Dylan Cease at TEX
Chris Bassitt vs HOU
MacKenzie Gore vs NYM
📞 Call To The Bullpen
It makes sense to prioritize the six closers playing this week, although I would avoid the Rockies’ side.
Colorado already has the worst bullpen assembled (in the history of the sport?) and they should be even more taxed today because they played 14 innings on Sunday.
I would also avoid the Mets because they deploy a closer committee.
Closer Options:
Josh Hader - HOU
Trevor Megill - MIL
Chad Green - TOR
Kyle Finnegan - WSH
💰 Stacks
Brewers
There is one word to describe GW28, and the word is Brewers.
They are one of the six teams playing four games, and all four will come at Coors Field.
Their team total tonight against Austin Gomber is a whopping 6.38 and I’d expect to see something similar over the next three days.
Milwaukee is 10th in wOBA (.322) and 9th in wRC+ (109) on the year.
Mets
The Mets won’t be at Coors Field but they draw three soft matchups against Nationals pitching.
I say three because their game against MacKenzie Gore tonight is a tough one. I have a lot of respect for Gore and how he’s pitched this season.
The Grimace streak has ended but the Mets were still one of the hottest teams in baseball in June.
Last month they were second in ISO (.224), first in wOBA (.373), and first in wRC+ (148).
Other Stacks Include:
Rockies, Blue Jays, Nationals, Red Sox, Guardians
