⚾️ Pitching Primer
Dylan Cease at STL
Cease has cooled off a bit from the insane stretch he had to close out July, but he still has been going deep into games and offering a high floor to managers.
The matchup against St. Louis is enticing. Pablo Lopez faced the Cards two days ago and struck out nine over seven innings of shutout ball.
Cease is third in K/9 (11.23) and seventh in xFIP (3.24) on the year.
The Cardinals are 20th in wRC+ on the year (96).
Chris Sale at MIN
Sale continues to be one of the most dominant pitchers in the game.
He has the highest K/9 in the game (11.64) and the lowest xFIP (2.52).
The matchup against Minnesota isn’t amazing, but Sale can have big games against just about anyone.
The Twins strike out slightly below league-average but they should still be without Carlos Correa and Byron Buxton.
Other Starters Include:
Justin Steele at PIT
Jack Flaherty vs BAL
Freddy Peralta vs SFG
Tarik Skubal vs LAA
Gerrit Cole at WSH
Zack Wheeler vs HOU
Nick Lodolo vs OAK
Michael King at STL
Logan Gilbert vs TBR
📞 Call To The Bullpen
Lucas Erceg was recently named the closer for Kansas City and he sticks out as the top option this week with five games.
Otherwise, closers from the teams with four games are going to project well here.
Kenley Jansen hasn’t pitched in four games so I like his odds here against Toronto.
Closer Options:
Lucas Erceg - KCR
Kenley Jansen - BOS
Emmanuel Clase - CLE
Tyler Kinley - COL
Calvin Faucher - MIA
Robert Suarez - SDP
Carlos Estevez - PHI
💰 Stacks
Royals
The Royals don’t have great matchups in GW44, but having five games makes them the top option.
They will face four righties and one lefty here.
Bobby Witt Jr. is the best play of the entire slate, and I love the idea of mixing in Vinnie Pasquantino, Sal Perez, and even some of the other guys lower in this lineup.
Blue Jays
Boston hasn’t released their exact pitchers for this series but they should find success no matter who they roll out there.
Fenway is excellent for right-handed power and the Blue Jays have plenty of it.
The Diamondbacks swept the Sox here with run totals of 12, 4, and 7.
Also, Vladdy loves hitting at Fenway so start him everywhere.
Marlins
Miami has one of the weakest lineups in the league, but they draw a stellar matchup here at Coors Field for four games.
I wouldn’t go overboard here but I like the idea of mixing in Jake Burger, Xavier Edwards, and Jesus Sanchez into some lineups this week.
Other Stacks Include:
Red Sox, Rockies, Phillies, Padres
