☔️ Rain Check
Only Atlanta has a weather risk this week.
Wednesday has thunderstorm worries, and Thursday has an 85% chance of rain.
The Bronx looks iffy, but I think that one can be safe.
Atlanta (NYM at ATL) *RISK*
New York City (BAL at NYY)
⚾️ Pitching Primer
Framber Valdez/Hunter Brown vs SEA
The Mariners are technically still alive for a postseason spot, but they have around a 5% chance of doing so.
I’ll continue picking on them with pitchers due to their league-leading 27% strikeout rate.
Framber has been incredible this year and has the best floor/ceiling combination of any pitcher going in GW52.
Brown has a higher K/9 than Valdez (9.38) and a solid xFIP (3.52). His last two starts haven’t been great, but he’s flashed upside this season.
Bailey Ober vs MIA
The Twins desperately need to win games because the Tigers have made a late push for the postseason.
Luckily Minnesota has a series versus the hapless Marlins on tap.
Ober has a better K/9 than Pablo Lopez this year (9.60), and somehow flashed 12 punchouts in his last start against the Guardians.
Miami has one of the worst lineups in baseball, but they strikeout about league average as a team (23.2%).
Other Pitchers Include:
Zac Gallen vs SFG
Chris Sale vs NYM
Freddy Peralta at PIT
Tanner Bibee vs CIN
Tarik Skubal vs TBR
Cole Ragans at WSH
Aaron Nola vs CHC
Kevin Gausman vs BOS
📞 Call To The Bullpen
28 out of 30 teams play three games, so targeting closers who are in good matchups but haven’t pitched in a while is the best strategy.
Also, this time of year, we should target closers on teams who still have something to play for.
Lucas Erceg might be the best play considering these criteria.
Closer Options:
Lucas Erceg - KCR - Hasn’t pitched in five games
Andres Muñoz - SEA - Has pitched in three of last six
Devin Williams - MIL - Has pitched in two of last six
💰 Stacks
Cardinals
Yes, the Cardinals stink, and yes, the Cardinals are not going to the postseason.
BUT. The Cardinals will face the Rockies at Coors Field.
Two lefties make Paul Goldschmidt and Nolan Arenado stand out if you’ve got them in your gallery.
This could be the week for Jordan Walker as well, who has an impressive .173 ISO on the year.
Twins
If you guys want some playoff baseball talk, I recorded an episode of Sideline Talk with Romar last week that contains some hot takes.
But anyways, like I said earlier, the Twins NEED to win these games.
They should find some success here against Miami at home.
Ryan Weathers is a lefty but both Cabrera and Bellozo are righties.
Byron Buxton, Carlos Correa, and Royce Lewis would be my favorites here.
Other Stacks Include:
Royals, Brewers, Diamondbacks, Braves
